This dish was made by press moulding a slab of clay over a hump mould. The clay has been deliberately kept quite thick to create a robust piece with a slightly primitive feel to it! The clay contained burnout materials which have left random hollows in the clay and some of these were filled with dabs of glaze containing a little copper oxide.
More decorative than functional perhaps, but could be used for serving dry foods and snacks such as olives.
The piece measures approx. 7.5 inches in length, just under 7 inches wide and 2 inches in height.
